Can you make a better video? Upload your work to YouTube and suggest the video using the link
provided below.
How will this work?
When someone feels that they can top the current cover for a particular song, they should submit
the YouTube URL to get into the contest queue. Videos will compete head-to-head with a period of
time when users will be able to vote on which video they feel is the best. The winner will then
have their video featured on this page until a better video comes along.
Own your entry!
While the order of tracks for the album are rigid, you (the artists) should make the song that
you want to cover your own. The people will decide whether your submission is better than the
current reigning champ.
Easy pickin's
Currently, we're only going to try this out using Picaresque. If there is good feedback and
participation, we'll branch out to all of the Decemberists' catalog. I have scoured YouTube
for random entries to seed the website. Note that I have been unable to find any covers of
The Bagman's Gambit. You could film yourself in drag, banging a 5 gallon bucket, screaming
the lyrics and automatically be featured. So, get out there and start recording!
For the nonartist types
If you are like me and are unable to carry a tune, feel free to submit other people's covers
that you think are superior to the current slot holder. Or perhaps, collaborate! Make a visually
superior product!
Losers
Losers are the people who never went out on a limb... who never bared all before the world...
So, submit your videos! If you should happen to have your video voted off, simply rework your
presentation and submit a new video!
